Local Eggs

I stopped by the place I'm going to buy my chickens from to buy eggs today. Thought I'd share a pic of the bounty. These were all laid freshly this afternoon. They collect eggs about three times a day.

I paid just $10 for all these fresh, fertile, local eggs. I think that's a very good deal!

Keeping It Real

Keeping it real....he fell asleep at the table, while refusing to finish his salad.

Homegrown Salads

We are eating salads straight from the garden these days. Makes me happy! I am also getting copious amonts of greens from the Farmer's Market. I am feeding my freezer, as well, so we'll have organic green smoothie ingredients in the summer.

What a Hunchback!

Troubles has been a bit ill lately, and has napped a few afternoons. While in the mend, he ran out of gas the other day and fell asleep on the living room floor, in the most unusual of positions!

His scapula is protruding! Must be the doublejointedness that runs on my side of the family.

Family Projects

Whew, we've been busy lately! "Doing what?" you might ask. Well, several things, really. The biggest project we've had is a book drive, as I blogged about before. We are participating in Disney's Give a Day, Get a Day promotion. We finished collecting recently and here is the result:

We didn't count the individual books, but we had 33 boxes of various sizes. Here they are all packed into the van:

We drove the hour to the drop off site and delivered the books with our friends, the K. family. They participated, too, and we'll be enjoying our day at Disneyland together. It was a big project, but I am so glad we participated. The books will be sold next Saturday and the Hope For Future Victory School in Uganda will be blessed.

Praying for Darlens

Darlens is one of the children that has captured the hearts of the Crew. We have followed The Rescue Center blog since the earthquake in Haiti. He was brought to the Rescue Center near the end of January.

This is Darlens. His age in unknown. His weighs 11 pounds. His mother was going into Port-au-Prince, the day of the earthquake, to give blood for a family member that was having surgery. She never returned. They never found her. The father was killed when a house fell on him. An aunt brought him to the clinic to see if we could take him. He is severely malnourished.

He's been taking food, though he still has a fever. Please pray for healing for him, and all the children being loved and cared for at The Rescue Center.

Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world! Red, brown, yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world!

Give a Day, Get a Day

Have you heard about it? Disneyland is giving free admission to the park for those who complete a volunteer day with one of the organizations who are listed with them. We went to Disneyland three years ago and had such a good time! When we heard about this promotion, we were very excited. Troubles will really be able to enjoy it this time, and many of the older children will get to ride on things they weren't tall enough for last time.

I went to the HandsOnNetwork site and found a charity that allowed children to serve, too. I found nothing in our town, or even very near, but there was an opportunity in the nearest city. We are collecting books for a sale that will occur on Feb. 27th. The proceeds of the book sale will go to benefit an orphanage in Uganda, Africa. Just $1 feeds those children three meals a day. Each book collected and sold will make such a difference in a real life. The woman that is organizing the sale sends every single dollar to the orphanage directly, so none is lost to overhead.

Here are pictures from the orphanage.

Bunny News

We are really loving our bunny, Hassenpfeffer. He's grown so very fast! His house that my Honey fashioned for him the day he joined our family is now his food dish. Here's a shot of him a couple of nights ago, eating out of my hand.

We finally found a brush for Snickerdoodle, our Angora lop. First the Lambies, then I, brushed her pulling out all the loose fur. She seemed to really enjoy it. She didn't fight or struggle at all, and we had a large handful of fiber when we were done. Next time, she will be cleaner to begin with and we will save the fiber. It's supposed to be beautiful when spun.

Finally!

Oh, joy! Rapture! I have been eating icky old eggs from Costco all winter and egg breakfasts quickly lost their appeal when the real eggs became unavailable. Since I am trying to lose some more weight, daily oatmeal is out. Even bland, pale eggs are better than nothing. Finally, though, eggs have become affordable at the Farmer's Market. They will fill the gap until my friend Tammy's hens begin laying an abundance again.

Real Eggs 1.30.10

Monday's breakfast will be Extreme Veggie Scramblers along with a smoothie to up the amount of breakfast greens.
