Chooks!!
Well, what a difference a day has made. Yesterday I was going to buy nearly grown pullets; today I have a tub full of four day olds. They beat the older hens in cuteness, that's for sure!!

They are Rhode Island Reds, Buff Orphingtons and Barred Rocks. Next week I will add two Golden Sex Links to the mix. The feed store will not be getting Americanas in time for me to add them to our flock. Maybe next time!

Family Projects
Whew, we've been busy lately! "Doing what?" you might ask. Well, several things, really. The biggest project we've had is a book drive, as I blogged about before. We are participating in Disney's Give a Day, Get a Day promotion. We finished collecting recently and here is the result:

We didn't count the individual books, but we had 33 boxes of various sizes. Here they are all packed into the van:

We drove the hour to the drop off site and delivered the books with our friends, the K. family. They participated, too, and we'll be enjoying our day at Disneyland together. It was a big project, but I am so glad we participated. The books will be sold next Saturday and the Hope For Future Victory School in Uganda will be blessed.

Praying for Darlens

Darlens is one of the children that has captured the hearts of the Crew. We have followed The Rescue Center blog since the earthquake in Haiti. He was brought to the Rescue Center near the end of January.
This is Darlens. His age in unknown. His weighs 11 pounds. His mother was going into Port-au-Prince, the day of the earthquake, to give blood for a family member that was having surgery. She never returned. They never found her. The father was killed when a house fell on him. An aunt brought him to the clinic to see if we could take him. He is severely malnourished.
He's been taking food, though he still has a fever. Please pray for healing for him, and all the children being loved and cared for at The Rescue Center.
Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world! Red, brown, yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world!

Give a Day, Get a Day
Have you heard about it? Disneyland is giving free admission to the park for those who complete a volunteer day with one of the organizations who are listed with them. We went to Disneyland three years ago and had such a good time! When we heard about this promotion, we were very excited. Troubles will really be able to enjoy it this time, and many of the older children will get to ride on things they weren't tall enough for last time.
I went to the HandsOnNetwork site and found a charity that allowed children to serve, too. I found nothing in our town, or even very near, but there was an opportunity in the nearest city. We are collecting books for a sale that will occur on Feb. 27th. The proceeds of the book sale will go to benefit an orphanage in Uganda, Africa. Just $1 feeds those children three meals a day. Each book collected and sold will make such a difference in a real life. The woman that is organizing the sale sends every single dollar to the orphanage directly, so none is lost to overhead.
Here are pictures from the orphanage.
