Our Most Recent Project

What's been keeping us busy lately?

My Honey has been busy updating our computer lab. The Lambies have had one computer to share for schoolwork and fun. However, Dad and Mom just got new computers, so they got the 'hand-me-downs". Three computers would not fit on the desk, though, so Poppa went to work.

He wasn't working all alone, though. He got all the help he wanted (and maybe more at times).

Now there are three computers for them to work and play on! See the laptop hiding on the far side of the shelf? It lives on the pull-out keyboard shelf.

I love that My Honey can just build whatever we need when we need it. He is SO talented! Thank you, Lord, for giving him to me!

Brave Trixie!

(Photo taken by EmBlem at Avila Beach, 2011)

My daughter, Trixie. She lives all out. She holds nothing back and loves every minutes of life. I didn't get pictures of today's adventure, because she was on her own. She went with a veterinarian to do bovine pregnancy checks on a dairy.

Yeah. She's learning all about being a vet this year. The first lesson began with a glove....

This is a vet tech student demonstrating with Trixie did today:

Good for you, Dear, for learning all you can about things that interest you. Keep up the good work!

Impromptu Nature Study

I found a drowned insect in our pool skimmer and brought it in so the kids could see it. I think it's a Bush Katydid. I don't recall ever seeing one alive before. I didn't even know that they lived around here! It's marvelous how wonderfully camouflaged their wings are. How could that be chance? They are clearly designed by a Designer!

It's Getting Closer....

It's getting closer to school time. I finally have all of this year's workbooks prepared. I like to take workbooks apart and have the Lambies copy problems into a notebook. Copying math is one skill that is easy to miss out on when homeschooling!

I have students in almost every book in the program this year!

Kicking It

We have friends over today. Everyone was tired of playing, so I put on "Incredible Creatures That Defy Evolution" on Netflix. We're learning about mussels, the function of a horses' frog, ostriches and more. So many interesting facts to absorb!

Sonlight Books

We had our annual used curriculum sale today. I need very little for next year, but I did go, looking specifically for Mystery of History Vol. II, III, and IV, any Sequential Spelling 2-7, and Sonlight books. I also picked up MUS Algebra I from a local homeschooler who passes the TM and DVD along to me when she is done with them. I did end up with SS 2 and lots of Sonlight books. My stacks of SL are getting bigger and bigger!

One of this summer's projects is to get all of the books in the library cataloged (realistically, it's not likely to happen). A smaller sub-project is to get Sonlight books separated out and shelved together. Having the SL list change once again this year doesn't help matter, but this part may get done this summer regardless.

A Girl and Her Gun

We toured the B-17 "Sentimental Journey" today. We also got to see the B-25 "Maid in the Shade" close up and even see it take off. It was so loud! One of these days I hope to have the $400 it takes to take a ride in her. This is our third year supporting the Arizona Wing of the CAF. If they come to an airport near you, don't miss them!

Math Game Time

Missy's favorite school activities are copywork and math. This is a game she likes to get out once in a while. She nearly got the whole box matched up before she was finished!

MUS Tower

After completing school today, Troubles asked to play with the blocks. I thought he meant Lego, but out he came with the Math-U-See blocks. He built this tower. It stood all day and was deserving of a picture on the blog. He told me so!

Rocket Readers

I have a full set of Rocket Readers that I bought when the company was going out of business. They aren't too hard to find yet, if you have little ones. I have Troubles going through the Pre-Level One books on his own, while doing the Level One ones with me. Missy may be ready to do some of the Pre-Level Ones next year. I like that they are so simple, yet are Bible based. They give beginning readers the same sense of accomplishment that finishing a Bob Book does, but they tell better stories. :)

What Did Amazon Send This Time?

On the advice of a bloggy friend, whose opinion I respect on these things, recommended these books. Of course, being the good consumer that I am, I clicked over to Amazon and spent some swagbucks. I can't wait to look them over and plan how we will use them next year!

MUS Time!

Missy's math skills have greatly improved this year. Several months ago, we were given a wooden tray designed to hold MUS blocks. It has channels cut into it to build the problems in. After lots of work, she finally understands how to build the number sentences! She lays a ten block atop the numbers, then she finds the unit block that will complete the equation and writes the answer. Look at the page she did!

Thanks, Maria, for the gift. It's been beneficial and appreciated!

He's a Reader!

Troubles finished reading "Hop on Pop" today! What a big guy he is....all of five-almost-six already and reading! Makes a Momma's heart proud.

High School Biology

Em was excited to do her second dissection of the year this week. So thrilled was she that she wouldn't let me get any pictures of her face. Instead, you can see the beginning of the end of Mr. Crawdad.

It's All Here

All of the curriculum I have ordered is here! I've been enjoying reading through the new books and mentally planning next year's studies and activities. I still want to get the experiment kits from Home Science Tools, but they are extras...we may end up putting the stuff together ourselves.

High School Science

We had our first ever high school science dissection. We purchased a specimen kit from Home Science Tools to avoid a live dissection.

Amazon Packages

I've gotten several new packages with Amazon's happy face on it. It's curriculum-buying time and a free trial of Amazon Prime is helping get it all here FREE. I wish everything I needed was available from them!

Preschool Time!

Trixie is reading to the preschoolers and Year 0/1 Lambies. Anyone able to tell what book it is from the picture?

A is for (Johnny) Appleseed

These are some of the materials I used for the visiting preschoolers today.
